  • Description :

The cavesson, a bitless halter, is the ideal training aid: When lunging, the cavesson promotes
-Trains the horse's self-carriage and balance
    -Promotes bending and position
    -Increases back activity
    -Activates the hindquarters
    -Versatile when doing ground work
    -Breaking in young horses
In contrast to lunging with a bit or stable halter, the pull of the lunge with the cavesson is on the middle of the nose and positions the horse. The cavesson therefore has a direct effect on the neck and not just on the outside of the horse's head. As a result, the cavesson can be used to influence the horse's back from the nose to the tail and achieve a longitudinal bend. Since the horse is not framed by auxiliary reins and forced into a position, but has to balance itself, the horse's self-carriage and balance are trained. Lunging with a cavesson therefore exercises and strengthens the horse.

With a cavesson, the lunge is attached to a ring that is on the sturdy noseband /nose iron.

This prevents a permanent, one-sided pull on the horse's mouth from a lunge attached to the bit. It is not uncommon when lunging with a bridle that the bit is pulled out a little on one side of the mouth. This is painful for the horse and very counterproductive to the actual purpose of lunging, which is to work the horse loosely over the back.

Pay attention to the following rules when fastening the cavesson:
The noseband is two fingers wide under the cheekbone
The noseband is four fingers wide above the nostrils
The nosepiece is adapted to the shape of the horse's nose; does not stick out, does not form pressure points
A finger's width fits between the headpiece and the ears
The noseband is below the eye and runs straight down
The cheekpiece lies flat against the horse's head and runs next to the cheekbone
If present: The browband sits loosely, but prevents the headpiece from slipping back
