SECURITY TIPS by weshare.mu

Even if it is very rare, there is a likelihood that you will one day be confronted with illicit behaviour. We recommend that you pay attention, and follow the following tips and tricks:

  • If it sounds too good to be true, be particularly vigilant!
  • Report illegal Ads.

You can alert us when an Ad seems suspicious to you by clicking on the « Abusive Content » button. We will make sure to follow up as soon as possible.

Check the item before making the payment.

We do not recommend paying for an item that you have not yet seen, and we recommend that you see the product before paying the seller.

Cash payment – Be cautious.

If you have any doubt about the seller, do not plan to take too much cash with you. Once you have seen the item and if you wish to buy it, go to the nearest ATM, and make the exchange in a safe place.

Keep track of your interactions. Save emails and conversations which you have had with the seller.

Be honest when describing your good or your service on weshare.mu.

Fill in as much information as possible on your Ad.

Try to complete as much as possible the fields required for the publication of your Ad, to limit interactions with potential buyers as much as possible.

Insert photos.

Optimise your Ad by adding one or more image(s). It will be more attractive, and you will be more likely to be contacted. In addition, photos prove the authenticity of the product; which is very reassuring for buyers.

A clear and concise description.

Provide clear and concise details of your good or service, and do not hesitate to personalise the Ad, or add a touch of originality!

Respect our conditions.

The content of the Ad must follow our site rules. If you have any doubt, read them before posting your Ad.

Be responsive.

Check regularly your messages regarding your Ad. We advise you to reply to all requests in order to increase your chances of a transaction. If you receive the same question several times, your Ad must surely be completed.

Meet your interlocutor.

It is important to meet your interlocutor in a public place. Avoid going alone, or let someone know about the meeting, specifying the time and address of the meeting.

Proof of purchase.

Try to provide as many documents as possible on the purchase of your item (warranty, invoice) in order to prove that you are the owner, and to offer guarantees to future owners.

weshare.mu will never contact you to buy your item.

Even if we are really fond of your Ad, we will never contact you directly, either by email or by phone to purchase it. If a potential buyer contacts you on our behalf, ignore him / her; it is a fraud. We invite you to report it to our team.

Avoid any exchange with buyers from abroad.

Also be cautious about suspicious buyers who have suddenly gone to live abroad, for professional or family reasons.

Trust your instincts.

If the buyer is behaving suspiciously, follow your instincts and don not continue the deal.

Buying, selling or renting a property is an important experience. So, be sure to follow the following recommendations:

Organise visits during the day.

Visits must be made during daytime only. This will allow you to see the property in broad daylight, and to safely visit the premises.

Do not visit alone.

Whether you are a seller, a buyer or a tenant, avoid visiting alone. Otherwise, inform someone of this visit, specifying the time and address of the place; specify what time you will call him / her, and what to do if you do not call.

Follow your instincts.

If for some reason whatsoever you are apprehensive about visiting the place, make up an excuse, and leave. Trust your instincts; do not worry about the decorum in these cases.

Act like a professional.

In order to avoid any awkward situation, be friendly but not familiar. Act professionally, whether you are a buyer, a seller, or a potential tenant.

Refrain from any payment before signing a contract.

We advise you to pay only after a contract or a sales agreement is signed by both parties. Some scams involve asking you to pay for the purchase or rental of a property before you have even visited it.

Meet your interlocutor.

Whether you are a seller, a buyer or a potential tenant, it is important to meet your contact person before signing a contract. This will give you the opportunity to ask important questions, and make sure everything is in order. Be cautious about owners claiming that they cannot meet you because they are abroad; it could be a scam!

It is important to be careful when buying a pet, in order to avoid scams.

Follow your instincts.

If the animal is sold at too attractive a price, there is a risk that it is a scam to catch your attention. However, some people just want to give their pet as quickly as possible. It is essential to check with the seller, and to obtain as much information as possible before the purchase. Follow your instincts!

Meet the seller before any purchase.

It is important to see the animal before buying it, in order to check if you are fond of it. If the seller does not want to meet with you, be careful; it may likely be a scam.

Ask for additional photos.

If the seller refuses or is unable to give you additional photos, be cautious.

Buying a car or a motorcycle is an important decision. Here are our top tips for buying a vehicle safely:

If it sounds too good to be true, it sure is!

Listen to your common sense, and follow your instincts. If the Ad is priced far below market prices, there is a risk that the vehicle will be in very poor condition, stolen, or even non-existent.

Meet the seller and inspect the vehicle.

It is important to meet with the seller, and to drive and inspect the vehicle thoroughly before making a sale. If possible, organise a meeting during the day in order to easily spot any damage to the vehicle. Avoid going alone, or let someone know about the meeting, specifying the time and address of the meeting.

Check it out.

It is advised to check the vehicle when buying a second-hand one, if possible, accompanied by someone who is familiar with the automotive world.

What it is important to control:

  • The general condition by taking a step back.
  • Check around to see if there are any impacts or if the car has been in an accident.
  • Openings (doors & windows).
  • Tire wear.
  • The condition of the tailpipe.
  • Shock absorbers.
  • Under the bonnet (levels, general condition).
  • Make a test drive.

Check all original documents and certificates.

Check that the seller's address and vehicle identification number are the same on all documents; the serial number of the car which is on the papers must match the one on the chassis. Check the maintenance log, and the Technical Control report(s) - the original documents and not photocopies.

Do not transfer money.

We advise you to pay only upon receipt of the vehicle from the seller. Do not, under any circumstances, transfer money to a stranger before the sale; it is the most common scam.

Always accompany the buyer during a test drive of the vehicle.

It is important to verify that the buyer is in possession of a valid driver's licence, and is properly insured before taking a test drive. Make sure to accompany prospective buyers on these test drives to avoid vehicle damage or theft.

Take your precautions.

  • Always keep the vehicle keys with you.
  • Do not leave the keys in the ignition.
  • Be cautious about the potential buyer.

Make sure the payments are reliable.

Online payments via internet banking are a good way to ensure secure payment, and to avoid large sums of cash and blank check problems. Always ask for proof of transfer.

Cash payments can however be a good payment method. Ask that the money be remitted at the counter of your bank so that any counterfeit banknotes can be detected, and that the money be paid directly to your account.
